The first boat shoes were invented in 1935 by Paul Sperry, after he had a nearly fatal run-in with rough seas and a slippery deck. He was inspired by his dog's effortless darting-about on a frozen lake, to cut grooves into rubber shoe soles, mimicking the grooves on his dog's paws, and he created the first non-slip boat shoes. His shoes caught on, became official footwear of the U.S. Navy during World War II, and have been a classic ever since. Slip in to the The Rockford Footwear Depot, you may never slip again.
